Dragonfall (Blueprint Gaming): Overview
We could kick off with a mandatory Game of Thrones reference due to the abundance of the winged beasts in Dragonfall. However, it doesn't have a GOT feel to it at all. The vibe is more akin to The Hobbit as the action takes place in a Dragon’s lair bulging with rich stuff - jewels, gold and so on. Like Smaug, this dragon can unleash hell, but do well, and there is an epic haul of coins on offer due to the game’s potential. Blueprint Gaming's latest is a beast of a game with killer stats to go with it. Firstly, it's the most volatile slot to ever come from this studio, and the studios first shot at designing a grid slot style of gameplay creates some intense all or nothing gaming.
The action takes place on an 8x8 grid that uses 64 symbols along with Blueprint’s brand new Megadrop mechanic. Instead of spinning reels, the symbols drop from top to the bottom on each spin to fill the grid. Megadrop uses a cluster pays system to create winning combinations which are cleared from the grid when they land to let new symbols tumble into place. As you would expect, this can lead to chains of consecutive winners which get an additional boost during the bonus game. Overall, the effect is similar to Push Gaming's Jammin Jars, minus the random feature, and with a completely different theme in the driver's seat.
Players in this lair start the adventure off by selecting stakes from 20 p/c up to $/€20 per spin. RTP is above average on 96.43% and there are 6 base game pay symbols made up of blue, purple, green, grey and gold coloured dragon’s eggs. As long as 5 or more of the same symbol touch horizontally or vertically when they land, then they result in a winning cluster. This is helped by the inclusion of colossal symbols. Randomly, on any non-winning spin, the game can drop a colossal symbol anywhere on the grid. This changes the covered symbols into one common symbol to hammer out some cluster wins. Visually, the imagery and symbols are comparable in style to Red Tiger Gaming's slot Dragon's Fire. The wild symbol, in particular, looks like a mix of the eye of Sauron and the malevolent dragon oculus found in the Red Tiger game.
Dragonfall (Blueprint Gaming): Features
The Dragon's Eye Wild is actually the key to scoring big with Dragonfall as it plays several roles. In its straight-up wild role, it substitutes for any of the pay symbol to form clusters. But, when it is used in a winning combination, it does not vanish off the screen with the other symbols. Instead, it moves a position and can continue to help form more clusters on one spin. Not only that, but each wild possess a Multiplier that increases by 1 with each win it is part of. If a cluster includes more than one wild, then the multipliers are combined together for greater wins. The best part is that there is no limit to how high this multiplier can go. Once no more clusters land, the wilds fall off the screen with the rest of the symbols to make way for the next spin.
The second role the wild has is that of scatter. When 3 turn up on one spin, through cascade wins or not, they trigger 6 Free Spins. The rules of the bonus round are largely the same as the base game’s. The one exception is that wilds always remain on screen, including the wilds that triggered the feature. Wilds hold their multipliers and roam the grid between spins, whether winners land or not. Any new wilds that fall are also held on the grid until free spins are over. In this way, a staggering number of cascading wins and multipliers are technically possible.
Obviously the snowball effect during free spins is the most desirable aspect of Dragonfall. Those with the option (non-UK based players) who are unwilling or impatient to reap its rewards can hit the Bonus Buy button to trigger three dragon eyes on the next spin. As always, there is a cost, in this case, it is 100 times the stake which is a fairly standard figure.
Dragonfall (Blueprint Gaming): Verdict
While there may very well be one or two Tolkien fans at Blueprint, the reason they chose this theme might have been to put some distance between it and Jammin Jars. Where Push Gaming went cutesy, Blueprint has gone the opposite route and mixed in an edgy theme which suits the stats and mechanics. To be honest, when the game is doing its thing the theme fades into the background and becomes kind of irrelevant anyway. By doing its thing, we are of course talking about those long chains of consecutive clusters that grid slots like this can produce. Get on a good roll and symbols seem to pop, change, and form combos endlessly. Mix in the increasing multipliers and it is no wonder that the game boasts a potential of up to 25,000 times the stake.
The base game on its own is entertaining, but the free spins are where the real magic happens. This makes the Buy Button a tempting proposal; though due to a recent law change UK gamblers will need to rely on luck and patience to trigger it. Either way, players are in for a heck of a ride with Dragonfall. It's not Blueprint Gaming's most volatile slot for nothing, and hardcore gamers will appreciate the bumps and rewards its math model provides. When it comes to other players in the wider slots community, any dedicated gambler looking for a beast of a slot with heavy volatility and rewards to match will find it in this superbly crafted, massively playable game.
Don't Miss...

Good
Dragonfall doesn’t shy away from the slots that inspired it, but it proves to be much more than a mere copycat.
